1 H & 40 MLasagna is a timeless favourite that’s sure to impress. This recipe includes a secret ingredient...eggs! Adding them to the ricotta mixture creates a luxuriously smooth and creamy layer that holds together beautifully when served.
Ingredients
- Meat Sauce:
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- salt to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 cups marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- Ricotta Filling:
- 2 eggs
- 1 container ricotta, 475g
- 2 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan
- salt to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup parsley
- Cheese Topping:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pasta:
- 1 (16 oz) package, cooked according to directions or oven ready
Instructions
- Step 1
- To make the sauce, brown and crumble the ground beef in a large skillet or saucepan. Pour the marinara sauce into the ground beef. If using jarred sauce, add a little water to each jar and shake to get all sauce out of the jar. Reduce heat to low and simmer until meat is extremely tender, at least an hour.
- Step 2
- To prepare the ricotta filling, whisk eggs in a large bowl, then stir in ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan, salt, pepper, and parsley.
- Step 3
- To assemble the lasagna, spread sauce/meat mixture on the bottom of a large baking dish. Lay noodles on top of the sauce, followed by more sauce, then ricotta mixture. Repeat. On the third (last) layer of noodles, spread sauce, then cover with foil.
- Step 4
- Bake at 375F for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, add the final layer of mozzarella, and then bake for another 30 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly. Let sit for at least 10 minutes before serving.
- Oven Mitts

For a delicious alternative, use 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 ground italian sausage. If you'd like a little heat, add a pinch of cayenne to the sauce mixture.
