This is an old family recipe that's been passed down through the years. These bubble buns are a delightful treat, somewhat similar to Timbits but with a softer, more bun-like texture. They're not overly sweet, making them perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a cozy snack. Every bite brings back memories of home!

Ingredients

  • First Step
  • 1/2 cup luke warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • Second Step
  • 1/4 boiling milk
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • Third Step
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon, slightly rounded
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. First Step
  2. Pour the sugar and yeast into the water and let stand for 10 minutes, then stir.
  3. Second Step
  4. While the yeast mixture is sitting, diissolve the shortening in the hot milk, then add the rest of the ingredients for Step 2, and mix together.
  5. Add in the yeast mixture and mix together.
  6. Let rise until doubled in size, then punch down and roll into small balls (will make approximately 3 dozen).
  7. Third Step
  8. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together (and nuts if desired)
  9. Dip the balls in the butter and then roll in sugar/cinnamon/nut mixture.
  10. Arrange in a baking pan, spaced more or less evenly.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes in a 375 degree oven.

Tip: This would be delicious with some chopped walnuts or pecans sprinkled on the bottom of the pan (arrange the balls on top of the nuts).
